FAQ's on Tally License
The key difference between Tally single user and double user is related to the number of users operating it. Tally single user (Silver edition) can be installed and accessed on one single PC. On the other hand, Tally multi user (Gold edition) is designed for use by multiple users in a LAN.
Other than no of users, there is no difference in features and functionality between the Single User and Multi User Editions.
No. A Tally Multi User is designed and licensed to be used from a single location over a Local Area Network (LAN). One Computer acts like a SERVER and Tally License is installed on this computer. The other computers on which Tally is required to be run gets the license from this server. If a Computer is not connected to the LAN, then Tally will not get the License and it will turn in to educational mode.
Example : Consider you have a Laptop which is connected to the LAN on which a Tally Multi User License is installed. When the Tally software is run from this laptop it will get the license from the server and user can operate it. However, when the Laptop is taken home or to some other location (removed from the LAN ) then it will turn in to education mode and work accordingly.
The requirement for accessing a Tally License from multiple locations can be fulfilled by other means. Please get in touch with us to know more.
Depending on the requirement there are different methods available to use same Tally Data concurrently from multiple locations.
1. Accessing Tally Data Occasionally from another location.
In this case Tally has provided Remote Access capability within the product Itself. One remote user (for Tally single user) and up to 7 concurrent users (for Tally Multi User) can access Tally Data from a remote location over the internet. This is more suitable for occasional data entry or Reporting purpose and not for continuous usage. Also there will be a limitation that the Tally Company should be running at the main location and connected to the Tally.NET Server
